Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's first attempts at mainstream stardom were fruitless with two record labels signing and subsequently dropping her before the release of any music. Capitol Records released Perry's Ur So Gay EP in 2007, and received little attention for its jolly flippant song. I kissed a Girl, a confident song about her sexual inclinations set against a hard-edged electronic-pop beat, made a bigger splash several months after. This song sparked controversy, and some critics accused it of promoting sexual relations between men and women, while others asserting that the explicit sexual scenario depicted was designed for men's fantasies. I Kissed a Girl became the number one hit in the world because of its mix of excitement and an elegant tune. It also helped her sell more albums, such as The One of the Boys. Hot N Cold, Perry's energetic and sharply-tongued record with the second single that became a hit, also proved popular. The album which Perry created herself, sold over 3 million copies.
